Arctic activities at Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos
Glass Igloos open 1st of September and we offer unforgettable Autumn activities, before the snow arrives. Our resort offers snow and ice experiences from the Autumn opening, welcome to try the earliest First Snow Ski Track in Lapland that opens on 1st of September. Our most Instagrammable pop-up Ice Bar serves frosty drinks and the chance to live like the locals materializes while playing Mölkky -outdoor game and roasting marshmallows at our floating lean-to.
Throughout the seasons, our saunas and outdoor jacuzzis are highly popular ways to experience Lapland. Experiencing the traditional Finnish Sauna is a must during your stay with us, and bathing outdoors under the Northern sky is beyond compare.
Starting from Autumn and early Winter, as our guest you will get familiarized with different forms of snow and ice, and get to know the story behind the SnowHotel
During Winter the lake Lehtojärvi freezes and creates a vast white playground for various Winter activities like ice fishing, electric snow scooting and electric snowmobile safaris.
Once the SnowHotel opens on 15th December you can experience something very unique – the only real Snow Sauna in the world.
AUTUMN (1st September – 31st october)
First Snow Ski Track We store snow over the Summer – and therefore, we can welcome you to try the earliest First Snow Track in Lapland that opens on 1st of September. The First Snow Track is a loop and runs as long as you can ski. Bring your own gear or borrow the equippment on site. First Snow Track is open daily between 1st of September to 30th of October.
Floating lean-to (available daily and complimentary for our overnight guests) is a cozy place to hang out by the fireplace, on the shore of lake Lehtojärvi. You can purchase some marshmallows from the reception and have a barbecue moment on the beach by the fire. Our staff will light the fire on your request.
Ice sculpting (available daily) 16:30-18:00 79€ / age limit: 12 y.o.) An absolute must is to try ice sculpting! During this tour, you’ll learn some interesting facts about snow and ice building as an art form and business. You also get to explore our ice sculpting facilities “behind the scenes” where our artists work – as well as get to try your skills by sculpting your very own piece of ice art at our workshop! All the unique new little sculptures made by our visitors will be on display in the brand-new Arctic SnowHotel next winter season.
Explore the Pop-up Ice bar. You can find our unique and highly photogenic Pop-up Ice bar (yes – 100% made of ice) in front of the Kota Restaurant. The Pop-up Ice Bar is open daily between 1st of September to 30th of October (on weather permit) between 18:30-19:00 & 21:30-22:00. The coolest is yet to come: From this bar you get to buy drinks, which are served from glasses made of ice!
Sky Bar is in the same building as the Kota restaurant (hallway connecting them) and during Kota Restaurant dinner times 19:00-21:00. The drinks can be purchased from Kota Restaurant.
Finnish sauna experience (1,5h available daily) 75 € / adult, 39 € / child. When in Finland, do as the Finns do and try Finnish sauna! We are happy to pamper you with traditional Finnish sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi – imagine the fresh air, bathing in warm water and hopefully you will see the Northern Lights as well! The sauna is booked in private use for each family/couple/group. We provide towels, slippers and bathrobes. Available daily on request 10:00-00:00.
Private sauna experience with spa package (1,5h available daily) 114 € / adult, 54 € / child. Elevate your sauna experience with sparkling wine and Finnish luxury from nature. With Tundra Natural indulgence package, you are provided with locally produced sauna scent, foot bath as well as soap- and shampoo bar. Get acquainted with Arctic herbs from Finland, and create a calming spa moment, take a sip of sparkling wine (non-alcoholic), close your eyes and allow your body and mind to relax. We provide towels, slippers and bathrobes.
Public sauna is a traditional Finnish mixed sauna, available for men & women daily. Complimentary for our overnight guests.
Traditional Finnish outdoor games (available Mon-Sat) at 10.00 complimentary for our overnight guests. While in Lapland Finland, why not try local games and chores? Our guide will show you how to play the traditional Finnish outdoor game, Mölkky. Mölkky is a fun and easy game for all ages. Our guide will also show you how to throw “suopunki” which is a type of rope reindeer herders use to catch reindeer. Joining the outdoor games is also a great chance for you to meet a local and talk about the local lifestyle and way of living with our guide.
Nature walk (available Tue, Thu, Sat) at 14:00 – 17:00, 99 € / adult, 55 € / child). After a short drive along the village road with our guide, it is time to start exploring the surrounding arctic forest safely guided. You are now in Finland, the most forested country in Europe, where over 75% of land is covered with forests, and the average Finn lives 700 meters from the nearest forest. Enjoy what the locals do every day, the silence of pure nature and have some sausages with berry juice – in Finland the food always tastes better when enjoyed outdoors! If we’re lucky, we may find some berries to pick and eat as well. Availability on weather permit.
Sonka on an e-bike features light pedalling and breath-taking sceneries (2h available Tue, Thu, Sat) 10:30-12:30 Price: 99€. Get to know the village Sonka and the countryside surrounding Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos. Our bikes are electric mountain bikes, so pedalling even the hardest terrain is light. The only thing taking your breath away on this tour will be the scenery! Suitable for people over 140cm in height.
Sound healing in Sonka is a sonic journey to your inner self (available tue and Fri) 15:00-17:00, 45€. Experience an ancient, relaxing treatment in atmospheric environment. Only five kilometres away, in the village of Sonka, Tibetan singing bowls will take you on a deeply relaxing sonic journey to your inner self. Group sessions are available Tuesdays and Fridays. Private sessions for couples are available all other times by appointment.
Visit to Santa Claus Village (Mon-Sat) at 11:00 – 15:30, 75 € / adult, 49 € / child. We are located in Rovaniemi, the Official Hometown of Santa Claus®. Our guide will drive you to a must-see and most popular place in Rovaniemi, Santa Claus Village. You can cross the magical line of the Arctic Circle, meet Santa Claus himself and visit his official post office and do some souvenir shopping. Our guide will show you where everything is located to help you to explore the area on your own. The excursion also includes lunch. At 14:25, the transfer back to our hotel will pick you up in front of Snowman World.
Guided tour – The world of snow building (available daily 18:15-18:45). See the magic happen behind the scenes – how one of the biggest snowhotels in the world is built every year. At the cinema point you will hear about the intriguing history and story of the Arctic SnowHotel. The guided tour gives you a glimpse inside the “engine room” our grand hall cooled down by solar energy, where all the ice crafting takes place. As a cherry to the cake you will get a glimpse of the snowhotel construction site itself. This sneak-peek is complimentary for our overnight guests.
Visit a local reindeer farm (available daily) 12:00-13:45, 72 € / adult, 36 € / child. Our guide will take you to visit a traditional reindeer farm. You can feed the reindeer and will learn about the history of reindeer herding and how the livelihood has changed in the modern world. Coffee and traditional Lappish sweet pastry is served inside the charming traditional log house, where you will learn about the Lappish lifestyle.
Visit to Ranua Wildlife park (available Mon, Wed, Fri) 9:30-15:30, 149 €/ adult, 109 € / child. 1,5 hour drive with our guide to visit the northernmost wildlife park in the world! Even though the polar bears are not wandering around in Lapland, they can be seen in this particular wildlife park. There are over 150 animals, living in their natural inhabitat (as the park focuses for the wellbeing of the animals). Get familiar with nordic animals like a swan, snowy owl and red fox.
EARLY WINTER (1st November – 14th December)
Guided sauna available daily 18:00 – 19:00, 25 € / adult, 15 € /child. It is estimated that there are three million saunas in Finland, for a population of 5.5 million. Saunas are obviously a very fundamental part of the Finnish culture, and during this activity, you’ll get to learn all about! Our Sauna Host will share some interesting facts about the Finnish sauna culture from the old times to the present, as well as show you how to do the sauna like a real Finn. Includes a non-alcoholic sauna drink.
Visit to Santa Claus Village available 10:00am – 5:30pm daily, 85 / adult, 49 € / child. Our guide will drive you to a must-see and most popular place in Rovaniemi, Santa Claus Village. You can cross the magical line of Arctic Circle, meet Santa Claus himself and visit his official post office and do some souvenir shopping. Our staff will show you where everything is located to help you to explore the area on your own. The excursion includes also lunch. At 4:25pm the transfer will pick you up in front of Snowman World. The entrance ticket to Snowman World is free of charge for over-night guests from 6th Dec to Mar 17th.
Ice fishing 10:00-11:00 daily 59 € / adult, 30 € / child. Participate in a fun arctic activity which will be memorable for people in all ages. Our guide will take you to a near-by lake where you will learn how to drill a hole through a thick ice. With luck, you might catch a fish! Available from Dec 1st on weather permit.
Visit to reindeer farm available 9:00 – 11:00 daily, 103 € / adult, 51,50 € / child. Our guide will take you to visit a traditional reindeer farm. You can feed the reindeer and will learn about the history of reindeer herding and how the livelihood has changed in the modern world. The visit also includes short ride on the reindeer sleigh! Coffee and traditional Lappish sweet pastry is served inside where you will learn about the Lappish lifestyle. The child rate is valid for children 2-12 years. WINTER (15th December – 31st March)
Snow fun for free. When winter season begins our guests get to have winter fun tobogganing from a snowy hill to the frozen lake, that is turned in to a vast snowy playing ground where you also find kick sledges and snow tubes.
Feeding the reindeer is one of the favourite things for our guests. The reindeer move to our courtyard as soon as there is enough snow.

Snow Sauna with Finnish sauna and Jacuzzi. Pure magic on the Arctic Circle is to experience the only snow sauna in the world. First, our guide will tell you how snow sauna works: the thick steam of the stove keeps the temperature high, even though the snowy walls radiate cold. You start your sauna experience by having shower and warming up in Finnish sauna. After experiencing snow sauna you can go to either outdoor jacuzzi or back to Finnish sauna.
Each sauna and jacuzzi is always booked privately to each family / couple / group. Price includes soap, towels, slippers and bathrobes.

Guided Snowhotel tour for accommodation guests (about 45 min) 10 € / person. During the tour, our guide will tell you about the history of the snow hotel and the building process as you walk along the hotel and visit the ice restaurant and ice bar, the ice chapel and the unique snow sauna. Tours daily.

Visit to Santa Claus Village & enjoy a husky ride (Tue-Sun) 10:00-17:50, 139 € / adult, 89 € / child (excl. 24th and 31st Dec). Rovaniemi is the Official Hometown of Santa Claus® – and therefore, visiting the Santa Claus Village, is a must! On arrival in Santa Claus Village, our guide will show you where everything is located to help you to explore the village area on your own. During this tour you get to:
Meet Santa Claus himself and visit the Santa Claus’ Main Post Office, where all the letters addressed to Santa, arrive to! Cross the magical line of Arctic Circle. Explore Snowman World -winter activity part. Enjoy a delicious 3-course buffet lunch at a magical indoor “forest and pond” in Restaurant Santamus. Join an unforgettable husky ride of 2,5 kilometers and warm up afterwards in a cozy yurt with hot juice and cookies. Do some souvenir shopping. At 16:25 the transfer back to the hotel will pick you up in front of Snowman World.
Snowshoe excursion 14:00-16:00 daily (2 hours) 90 € / adult, 60 € / child Our guide will show you how to walk with these arctic shoes and show you the beautiful landscape of near-by lake as well as a path through snow-covered forest. During the excursion you will have a break by campfire where you will enjoy some hot drinks and can roast sausages by the fire. Available from Dec 15th.
Electric snow scoot safari (eLyly)12:00-13:30 daily 129 € / person Take an exciting ride with the electric snow scoots in the near-by surroundings. Our guide will give you the instructions before you head out on a fascinating ride. During the safari you will have a break by a campfire where you will enjoy some hot drinks and can roast sausages by the fire. Suitable for children over 12 years old and 150cm or taller. available from Dec 15th.
Electric snowmobile safaris
Safartica operates world’s first electric snowmobile safaris (eSled) from our hotel premises. These safaris are environmentally sustainable and offer unique experience in small groups to explore clean and fresh Lappish nature. During the safari you will have a break by a campfire where you will enjoy some hot drinks and can roast sausages by the fire. The snowmobile safaris need a snowy terrain to operate!
Husky & reindeer safaris
Our guide will take you to visit a traditional reindeer farm at Konttaniemi farm. You can feed the reindeer and will learn about the history of reindeer herding and how the livelihood has changed in the modern world. In snowy months the visit also includes short ride on the reindeer sleigh! We work with Bearhill Husky tours where you can visit the kennel and get a feel of how the dogs are prepared to be the amazing athletes they are. Alaskan huskies will happily take you down the forest trail for an unforgettable experience.
