Northern Lights create the magic of Lapland

The Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos is the perfect spot to see Northern Lights in Finland. Our Northern Light Watcher keeps an eye on the night sky for you.

Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos is situated by the serene lake Lehtojärvi, far from the light pollution of the city center of Rovaniemi. With us, there’s no need to go Aurora hunting or take part in a Northern Lights safari — you can marvel at the Aurora Borealis from your bed in a glass igloo or step outside for an even closer look. The enchanting Lapland setting, complemented by stunning lakeside surroundings, enhances this magical experience. Undoubtedly, this is the best place to see the Auroras in Rovaniemi.

Our Northern Light Watcher makes sure that you will not miss the Northern Lights. The Watcher monitors the night sky and alerts the interested guests in glass igloos and Arctic SnowHotel as soon as there is something happening in the sky.

Take advantage of our Northern Light Watcher service

On clear nights when the chance of seeing Northern Lights is high, many of our visitors could easily spend hours gazing at the skies. To ensure that you will also have some time to relax, we are the first destination in the world to have a Northern Light Watcher. You can enjoy dinner or take a nap, because the Watcher is monitoring the skies for you and notify you as soon as the Auroras appear.

This complimentary service is included with both of our overnight options. If you’re staying at the Arctic SnowHotel, our Watcher will gently wake you up so you won’t miss nature’s spectacular light show. You can also request this service at the hotel reception. For guests in the glass igloos, the integrated Aurora alarm system will send notifications directly to your igloo.

Experience the northern lights in Lapland this autumn

The Northern Lights paint the sky in Lapland on about 150 nights per year. In Rovaniemi, the Aurora season begins at the end of August and continues all the way to April. While many believe that the Aurora Borealis can only be seen during winter, autumn is actually the best time to see them. Before the lakes freeze over, it’s possible to see Double Auroras, where the lights are reflected on the water’s surface. Located in the Aurora zone, Rovaniemi experiences Auroras on almost all clear nights, making it one of the best places to see the Northern Lights in Finland.

Our glass igloo hotel is open from the beginning of September to the end of March, and the igloos are a prime spot to catch the Northern Lights. In the autumn, before Lake Lehtojärvi freezes over, you may get a chance to witness the sensational Double Auroras, where the Northern Lights are reflected on the lake’s surface, creating a breathtaking sight.

The typical time to see the Northern Lights is between 22:00 and 02:00. They are visible when it is dark enough – sometimes even earlier in the evening.
